So a new grocery store (WinCo) just opened a couple of freeway exits away from our house. We got a flyer in the mail and it had some coupons & listed some of their sale prices for their Grand Opening. I need to get more organized about grocery shopping, I think we made 3 trips to the grocery store last week. Seems as though once we arrive home we realize something else we need. Anyway, Taylor eats Cheerios every morning. I bought 2 boxes yesterday on sale for 2 for $6.00. I think they're usually $3.98/box. Because of her allergies, I can't really buy whatever's on sale when it comes to her food. I stick with brands that I know are safe for her. Different companies might make dairy products on the same equipment they make their cereals, and in the past she reacted to a product with a shared equipment warning for milk. So, when I saw I could get the same size box of Cheerios for .98 cents at this new grocery store with the coupon in the flyer, I decided to check it out. They also had bananas listed in the flyer for .18 cents/lb! YES! .18 cents/lb! At the other grocery stores bananas are going for .79-.89 cents/lb. I recently discovered an absolutely delicious banana muffin recipe but I haven't made it again because I just can't justify paying .79 cents/lb for bananas when I know they're SO much cheaper at other times of the year.
So, I went to the store, today. It was SO busy. But the deals I got were well worth navigating the crowds. Here are some highlights on the fab prices:
Pasta sauce: $1.25/jar
Cantaloupe .18 cents/lb
10 lb bag of Russet Potatoes .68 cents!!! YES! .68 cents for the whole 10 lb bag!!!
Bag of 8 English Muffins .48 cents
Fresh Salsa - 16oz tub - $1.68 each
Green & Red Peppers - .33 cents each
Green Giant Canned Veggies - .28 cents each with coupon (limit 4 or I would have stocked up!!)
Beef Round Bottom Roast - $1.98/lb
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast - $1.49/lb.
Tortilla Chips - .99 cents/bag
24 rolls of Quilted Northern Bathroom Tissue - $2.98 with coupon (limit 2)
So, I got all the groceries in the pic above (including 10lbs of bananas - I can freeze them & use them in my yummy muffins) and I also got a 4lb roast, 3lbs of ground beef, 4lbs of Chicken breast and 4lbs of pork chops. So, take a guess at the grand total....I only used 3 coupons...
$85. 55!!! Can you believe it? I got all those groceries for less than $86.00! I love a good deal!!!
So, what do we plan to make with all that food? Well, as I said, Taylor's got dibbs on the Cheerios, and the diced pears, and sweet potatoes. I'll probably make her some meatballs with the ground beef & she's already stocked on chicken for her lunches this week. I'm thinking I'll do roast beef in the crock pot with carrots & potatoes. I'm also thinking I'll do the pork chops in the crock pot, too, with some sliced pears (.48 cents/lb). It sounds yummy in my head, but I'm not sure how the pork & pears will turn out.As for dinner tonight, I made sauteed chicken breasts with double stuffed baked potatoes (Rachel Ray recipe) and steamed green beans with butter & lemon juice. It was yummy! And, I actually made it. Generally, John cooks dinner while I put Taylor to bed, but he hurt his back so I did dinner while he slept off the effects of his Robaxecet. It was nice to be cooking in the kitchen and enjoy the fruits of my labor, rather than just pack it up in Taylor's lunch.
Looking forward to tomorrow night's dinner!
