One of the greatest joys of having a 2 year-old is that we never know what's going to come out of her mouth. Here's a few of our recent favorites:
- Tonight as I'm putting her to bed, we have this conversation:
T: I wanna sleep with Mommy, in your bedroom.
D: No, Taylor doesn't sleep with Mommy, you need to sleep in your room, in your crib.
T: (really whiny) No, I wanna sleep with you, Mommy. I'm sick. (she's not sick, but clearly she's learned that when she is sick, she sleeps with me!)
- Earlier this week as we're cuddling:
T: gives me a big hug and in the sweetest, softest voice utters something that sounds like, "Mommy I uoh You".
D: "What did you say? You love me?"(she says I love you, but that's not what it sounded like)
T: Hugs me again in the same sweet & gentle way and says clearly, "Mommy, I'm proud of you." Yeah, my heart melted.
- Earlier today she took a pen and put it in front of Hana (the dog) and said "Here, Hana, color with this, ok?" And then she proceeded to demonstrate to him how to color.
- Last week when we were driving back from LA, John took a wrong exit & the following conversation occurred:
John's Dad: "Which direction are we going now?"
John: "We're headed to San Diego"
Taylor: (quietly says)"No, I don't want Sand and Diego, I want Dora.
For those of you who don't see the humor in that, Dora & Diego are cartoon characters and Taylor absolutely loves Dora.
- Several weeks ago she had this adorably funny conversation with her doll:
(She's sitting on her child size couch with her baby doll beside her) "Baby...Baby...listen to me. Baby...listen. Listen to me. Baby...look at me...listen.........No more jumping on the couch!...OK?" I had to hold in my laughter. She said those words in the exact same tone that I say them to her. Verbatim.
- One night, in the last month when she was a little sick, I heard her fussing in her room. I went in to check on her. She was half asleep, lying down in her crib. We had the following conversation:
T: (a little whiny) Mommy....?
D: Yes, Baby?
T: Mommy...?(crying a little)
D: Yes, Taylor, what do you need honey...?
T: Modin, Mommy (= Motrin)
D: (feeling her, she's not feverish) You don't need Motrin, Honey, what do you need?
T: (sleepier, now, and settled) Chicken Nuggets.
D: (laughing, trying to hold it in until I got out in the living room & then I busted a gut!!!!)
Ahh...I wonder what she'll come out with tomorrow.
