A Miracle Happened...

A miracle happened in our house, tonight. This same event is probably not considered miraculous when it happens in other people's homes, but in our house, definitely miraculous. It's so miraculous that I even had to take pictures because John's out of town and he would never believe me if I didn't have the pictures to prove it. Very few people have had the pleasure of seeing our laundry room. In fact, I do believe that the only people who have seen it are people whom I've lived with in the past and thus, they already knew how I really lived before seeing my laundry room. These privileged people are my Mom and Ian, Marisa (my roommate from university) Jaana (one of my best friends who was on the same floor as Marisa and I in residence), and another best friend of mine, Jen (although we have never lived together in the true sense of the world, during grad school we were almost literally attached at the hip as we shared the same job, internship, classes and commutes).

Although, none of those people have seen the laundry room in the house that we currently live in, it's much smaller than our last laundry room, but the images are pretty much the same. So, in order to share this miracle with you, first I must confess my laundry issues. Yes, I know, we all have issues. Today, I will face my laundry issues. Big Sigh. I don't mind sorting laundry. I don't mind putting a load of clothes in the washer. I don't mind putting those same clothes in the dryer. In fact, that part has become much more entertaining since Taylor started helping with that chore not long after she started walking. And I actually love taking warm fresh clothes out of the dryer...and putting them in a basket. And that's where it ends. See, I know most people fold & put away their clothes on a regular basis, as part of the whole laundry process. But, I become paralyzed at that point.

But, that's not really where it ends. The load of fresh clothes sits in the basket right in front of the dryer. So, when another load needs to be done the whole process starts again and then I take that load out of the dryer and...you guessed it...the clothes go right on top of the other clothes already in the basket. Eventually, the basket is barely visible because it just becomes a mountain of clothes. I don't know why we even own dressers. I also have a closet full of empty coat hangers. Well, actually, John's hangers have clothes on them. That's because he does his own laundry. (Probably because he doesn't want to be living out of baskets). So when it comes time for me to get dressed each morning, I end up searching through the pile and throwing some wrinkled item back into the dryer to "de-wrinkle" (I know I'm not the only person who lives like this because that's actually an option on the dryer). Had I just hung or folded the clothes to begin with I would have saved precious time, personal energy, and the energy and money needed to run the dryer again.

So, the miracle that occurred in this house this evening is that I actually sorted, washed, dried, folded/hung AND put into my closet not one but TWO loads of laundry. Yes, my friends, it's a miracle. Maybe not for other people, but for me and the people who know me best, this truly is a miracle.

So, with Taylor and her baby (who she insisted be in the picture as she told her baby to "Say Cheese") as my witnesses, a miracle happened tonight.

Another miracle is that I downloaded these pictures from the camera and resized them (so if you click on them they can be view the whole picture in your screen) all by myself. OK, another confession, I had to call John to walk me through how to resize them, but it was so easy I don't know why he never showed me before. He's behind the scenes on the blog. I do all the writing and take most of the photos and he gets them into the computer and makes them look pretty, then I share them with all of you.

Yeah, tonight I'm going to go to bed feeling proud. Of course I still have a 3rd load of clothes in the dryer...
