Slimy Silly Putty

I really don't know if that's what it's called. Some people call it slime, but I think it's kind of like slimy silly putty. When I walked into Taylor's classroom at preschool several weeks ago they were playing with a version of this. The teacher told me they made it with paint, white glue and borax. Unsure of the recipe, I googled it today and came up with this recipe and then I made it while Taylor was napping. John played with it for quite awhile before she woke up. He declared it the coolest stuff he's ever played with. In all of my work with kids, I'm surprised I've never seen this stuff before. So, it is totally cool! It feels little slimy but leaves your hands clean, without any residue. It's softer and more pliable than silly putty but totally different than playdough. It's stretchy and rubbery. It's just so cool. And, the very best thing about it...Taylor sat at the table and played with it, beside John for longer than I have ever seen her sit and play with anything. I should have made this stuff a long a time ago. This girl will play with dolls for long periods of time, but she's racing from one room to another with them. The fact that she sat quietly with this stuff for so long is still amazing me. After she was playing with it for awhile, I gave her some cookie cutters and she totally loved using them to make shapes. And when we finally told her it was time to put it away and go to bed, she cried and kept asking for it back! So, this stuff was definitely a hit! The second best part is that it's reusable. Just store it in a ziploc bag and use it over and over again. And of course, because the ingredients are so simple, it's a very cheap activity!
