in colds, that is. Taylor is sick again. YES, AGAIN. I don't know what we're going to do with this kid. I'm sure part of it is starting preschool, but she was getting sick frequently even before she started preschool. And I swear, we're not hypochondriacs the kid really has valid illnesses. So, her nose has been running like a faucet since Saturday night (no exaggeration). At first I thought it was allergies, but I stopped the Benadryl after a day with no improvement in her symptoms. Claritin does nothing for her seasonal allergies and I haven't had the desire to try other antihistamines because of their side effects (some kids I know go bezerk on Zyrtec) It could be just fine for her but I haven't been sufficiently motivated to test it out. (Reads: I don't have the patience to deal with any monster-like behavior that Zyrtec may provoke in her!)
By Tuesday night, John and I were feeling cold symptoms, so I was more convinced Taylor had a cold rather than allergies. A couple nights on Nyquil has nipped our colds in the bud. Taylor's been pretty cranky all week but that's kind of typical of her 2 y/o attitude, lately. So, when I picked her up from preschool today, she took one look at me walking in the room and burst into tears. She ran to me and threw her arms around my neck, sobbing. The staff said her crying was totally unprompted and they had no idea what was wrong. I knew exactly what was wrong...because I've heard that miserable "just make me feel better, Mommy" cry too many times in the last several weeks. I was pretty certain she was getting a fever and was just miserable because she's sick. She sobbed the entire time I was gathering her stuff and she was sleepy on the way home. She started crying again as I got her out of the car. I got her in the door and we took her temp. 100.4. I don't generally give meds for low grade fevers but she was so miserable, and given her symptoms this week, we went ahead and gave her Motrin. Oh, and I'm sure I've raved about it here, before, but in case I haven't...we LOVE Motrin...We have a special song we sing about it because within about 15 minutes of dosing our miserable sick girl with Motrin she is transformed into a perky, pleasant and fun girl. Tonight wasn't any different. She was more pleasant tonight than she has been all week.
We bought a mediscope awhile ago so I took a look in her ears before bed. I only got a good look in one and it doesn't appear to be infected (I've looked at the poster enough times in the docs office that I know what a "normal" ear looks like versus an infected ear. I'll try to get a better look in her other ear tomorrow. I really hope she's just got a mild bug and not another ear infection.
Oh, and a side note...she's gone poopy on the potty 4x this week. And we haven't even started the potty reward program!
